Roughly VND244 billion (US$11.5 million) will be spent on a wastewater treatment project to be undertaken in the next four years in UNESCO-recognized Hoi An Ancient Town, located in central Vietnam.

The project will be implemented near Cau (Bridge) Pagoda in the town’s Cam Pho Ward from 2014 to 2018 to make sure the sewage discharged from households in the neighborhood meets standards before being poured into a canal nearby.

The World Bank (WB) has agreed to grant US$50 million in aid to Vietnam to support the country’s efforts in enforcement of wastewater treatment regulations in its industrial parks.

The funding, which is sourced from the WB’s International Development Association (IDA), will serve the Industrial Pollution Management Project that will be implemented in industrial parks located in Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Dong Nai and Ba Ria Vung Tau, four of the country’s most industrialized provinces.

Wastewater treatment plant identified as polluter !

The centralized wastewater treatment plant of the Long Thanh Industrial Park in the southern province of Dong Nai has been caught polluting a canal for four years, an environmental agency said.

After several months of investigation, the Natural Resources and Environment Institute under the HCMC National University has concluded that the poorly-treated wastewater discharged by the plant has caused serious pollution to the Ba Cheo canal.
